BACK PAIN RELIEF
Providing chronic back pain relief is what sets OLEA apart from other massage places. Have you spent money on different treatments but nothing helped? Before you decide to get an invasive treatment, we invite you to read this page to the end and book a full body analysis first.
LOCAL VS REFERRED PAIN
When you fall on your behind, rubbing helps because the pain is local. But your chronic back pain does not come from a fall or injury, does it? 90% of our clients never had injuries and don’t remember how their pain started. That type of pain is called referred pain and hence rubbing locally will not help much. Where ever the nerve gets trapped in the soft tissues determines where you feel the pain. The lower back is a common area due to chronic sitting and it typically comes accompanied by neck pain. Referred pain is tricky because it hurts not where you feel it making all local treatments as good as useless.
WANT TO KNOW A SECRET?
The key to back pain relief does not lie within the tight back muscles alone, and by rubbing the back, no matter deep or superficial, the relief won’t last. Your body is an amazing structure, and all systems within connect in a certain way, like pieces of a puzzle. There are several ways to get your back pain relief in only a few sessions, but you would need to participate. Unlike a car that you can drop off at the body shop, your body is a living organism transforming every day depending on your activity. Sometimes harmless habits can cause the back to give out, and it’s not just from bending over or sneezing that one time but the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
FOR NERDS
Let’s get technical and look at the main pain principle. Poor habits in sitting, sleeping, and moving turn general tension into chronic back pain gradually. Throughout life, some muscles get short and tight while others become elongated and strained. Tissues that have shrunk in size, like a washed wool sweater and those overstretched like old sweat pants, can’t work properly. As a result, the bones lack support and collapse under the invisible force of gravity. Say hello to early disk and joint degeneration :/
BLAME CHRONIC SITTING
Yes, getting up and moving around is a good tip for chronic sitters, but without awareness of how to reverse the effects of sitting, it becomes ineffective. With time your posture becomes funny as if your buttocks have been smushed by the chair. Your whole body shifts and realigns to find a compromise with that lifestyle of your choice. What does it have to do with back pain, you ask? This realignment typically means your spine loses its natural curvatures and becomes rigid. Nerves that live in the spine report discomfort to the brain – that’s how you feel pain.
FIX OR RELAX?
The above-described imbalance can be corrected very fast, actually. A bodyworker would identify and release the shortened tissues – typically flexors and engage the loose areas – typically extensors. The latter requires your participation if you want lasting pack pain relief. What happens in a traditional massage is the job gets done partially. You say, ” I want to relax”- therapist relaxes everything. The imbalance doesn’t get addressed, and the origin of pain remains like an active volcano ready to “explode” any time. So if you want to relax with a traditional massage that is totally cool, just be aware it will be a short-lived pleasure. If you are looking to fix your back pain and learn to prevent it in the future – welcome to OLEA.
